"We are delighted that Auction Video has chosen the Collaborative Conferencing Summit to debut this cutting edge technology," said Todd Brockman, Chairman of CCS. Auction Video has three main product lines that help online sellers worldwide to show what they are selling. These products are Auction Video, Show and Tell, and Auction Video Live. Auction Video is a browser-based, easy-to-use product that allows users to instantly record a 60-second video, or upload a pre-recorded video from a camera or cell phone, and post it to an online store, dating site, resume site, or auction site. The Show and Tell product allows users to add up to 30 digital images that are optimized for clarity and speed, adding self-paced voice narrations. "Some of the feedback from the user community we have received is overwhelming, we feel Auction Video is going to have the same impact as PayPal has had on auctions worldwide, and most importantly the distinct advantage we have is that Auction Video is easy to use," said Greg Ellis, CEO of Auction Video. Auction Video Live allows users to broadcast live video inside their online store or Auction, and answer text-based questions from their buyers via instant voice and video. Overstock.com recently used Auction Video to sell a $156,000 twenty-three carat diamond, and the Grammy Awards have used Auction Video on eBay to raise money for their online charity Auctions. "Any sellers who don't bring additional interactivity to their listings via voice and video in the near future...are toast," said eBay Powerseller Richard Delashmit, with Auctions-togo.com ( www.auctions-togo.com ). "We believe that video will be an important new component for listing online items in the future. This will be especially true for high-end listings, and items that are difficult to photograph and describe, such as collectibles," said Troy Thoreson, President of Auc Pro.
The Collaborative Conferencing Summit is sponsored by Polycom ( www.polycom.com ) (NASDAQ:PLCM), who will hold the Platinum Sponsorship; TANDBERG ( www.tandberg.com ) (OSLO:TAA.OL), who will hold the Silver Sponsorship; and Verizon Conferencing Services ( www.verizon.com ) (NYSE:VZ), who will hold the Bronze Sponsorship. Buyers, Bikes Connect Online DELAND -- Just in time for Biketoberfest, a Daytona Beach company is unveiling a new, online auction site for bikers who might want to sell their wheels or buy someone else's. HogBid.com is the brainchild of brothers Robert and Joe Craddock, chief executive and chief financial officer, respectively, of Internet service provider 695online.com. Joe Craddock, who lives in Las Vegas but spends about two weeks a month in Volusia County, is president of the new venture. Robert Craddock, HogBid.com's vice president, said the auction site is similar to eBay or Amazon, but HogBid.com's focus is on motorcycles and accessories. It will also take listings of all-terrain vehicles, scooters, snowmobiles and personal watercraft. "HogBid.com is geared toward the motorcycle industry," he said. "It's not just Harleys, but all lines of bikes." The motorcycle market is ripe for something like this, Craddock said. Every year there are about 500 biker-related events held in the United States, with 20,000 vendors supplying everything from specialized parts to apparel and other accoutrements. "Last year, there were 300,000 Harley-Davidsons manufactured," he said. "(Yet) there were more than 1 million motorcycles that changed hands." The used motorcycle market is worth $5.5 billion a year, Craddock said. HogBid.com hopes to capture a sizeable share of that. The Craddocks brought in John Green and Melissa Penland, partners in Iron Horse Saloon, Easy Rider Events and a number of other biker-related endeavors, for expert advice and to help market the site. Green said HogBid.com is unique because a user doesn't have to "wade through" a lot of pages he's not interested in to get to what he wants. "It's a specific site designed for specific people," Green said. "I'm certain it will do well." So far, Green said he and Penland's marketing efforts have been limited to "face-to-face" talks with vendors. "We have personal relationships with the powers in the motorcycle industry," Green said. "We're trying to get the engine running by getting people with products to sell to know that HogBid.com is the place to sell them." Craddock said HogBid.com also has partnered with online companies Escrow.com, for a secured payment system; Finance Express, for automated loan applications; and Auction Video, for video clips of items for sale. The Craddocks also are working out the final details of HogBid Stores, a section on the Web site that will allow dealers and others to create electronic versions of their stores. HogBid.com has a two-tiered auction system. For the first 72 hours after a seller lists a motorcycle for sale, only registered dealers can bid for it. The seller can set a minimum price and there's no charge to the seller for either listing the bike or setting a reserve price, Craddock said. If a dealer buys the vehicle, the seller gets full price and the dealer pays the auction-related expenses. However, if the bike doesn't sell in the first three days, the auction moves to a public portion of the Web site for renewable, seven-day listings. The seller pays a 3 percent commission to HogBid.com only after the motorcycle is sold, Craddock said. Payment options are determined by the sellers, but PayPal is popular and free for buyers, Craddock said. The buyer and seller have to work out how to get the bike or merchandise shipped. joe.crews@news-jrnl.com SOURCE: News-Journal research
Spice Up Your Online Auctions with Video It's only customary for online auctions to offer photos of items put up for grabs. But replacing photos with video clips could boost credibility and add detail to your offerings -- and you may reap a nice reward from your efforts. That's the thinking, at least, behind AuctionVideo's flagship application, which lets you record up to 60 seconds of video and audio and add it to your eBay or Yahoo! auction item listing. This is one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" kind of products because it's such an obvious use of advancing technology. And even though anyone with a little technical knowledge and a Web cam can host their own video clips, AuctionVideo has made it simple to integrate video with eBay and Yahoo!. Why add video? Credibility, for one thing. Still pictures can be compelling and have done a decent job of showing shoppers what they are bidding on. Even so, shoppers understand that dishonest vendors can take advantage of the fact that pictures can be copied from other sources and used to represent items they don't actually have for sale. "Crooks don't like to be photographed, much less appear on video," said AuctionVideo Chief Executive Greg Ellis. "We found that showing the seller in the video along with the product for sale adds immense credibility, because the bidder can see the person they're buying from." And... Action! The video clips can include audio as well. Most sellers use the audio portion to describe the product verbally. And one-upping still photos or scans, different angles or aspects of a product can be shown and described with ease using multimedia, enabling sellers to communicating a lot of information quickly. Indeed, it turns out that the 60 seconds available for each AuctionVideo is a lot more time than you might think. All that's required to create a video clip is a Web cam and microphone attached to your PC. AuctionVideo's Flash applet doesn't require installation, and shows your cam view in its own preview window. I was able to click the record button and capture my video while I talked into the microphone. The video is automatically stored on AuctionVideo's server so I didn't even have to upload the video file. I simply clicked the eBay button (there's a Yahoo! button as well) to capture the video's link to my clipboard. All that was left was to paste the link into my eBay item's display window and post my item for sale. Troy Thoreson, president of eBay Power Seller AucPro, has been pleased with his coin and collectibles shop's tests of AuctionVideo. "The AuctionVideo system is incredibly easy to use," Thoreson said. "Although I consider our scans to be of the best in the industry, I believe having a quality video will bring our items to life online." Going Live When I tested AuctionVideo myself, I had to re-record my video session a few times in order to get it the way I wanted it. It may not be Hollywood, but preparation does count. Be sure to have your lighting and background set up, and have a good idea what you are going to say for that full minute. Unfortunately, the AuctionVideo doesn't have any editing functions, so you have to record the entire minute as you want it to appear. AuctionVideo is available in different levels, depending on your volume of usage. The basic setup includes one "recording room". This means you can store one 60-second video clip and display it on one auction item for $9.95 per month. Of course, you can replace the clip as many times as you want, and attach that video feed to another, future listing. Additional recording rooms are $9.95 each, up to 5 rooms, and a Power Seller package includes 30 video clips at a discounted $199.95 per month. All the packages allow an unlimited number of views. "Un-Video" and "On Air" Versions AuctionVideo's latest (and most interactive) offering, AuctionVideo Live, is geared primarily for use during the last portion of the auction, when the bidding activity is most active. AuctionVideo Live lets you broadcast sound and video to bidders who log in to your video cast. Bidders can then use the text chat function to pose questions, and you can either chat back to them privately, or reply verbally in the video to all viewers. Does it make a difference? "If the results are positive, this technology has the potential to revolutionize the online coin market," Thoreson said. "Coins are extremely difficult to scan or photograph. The full luster cartwheel effect on uncirculated coins is sometimes flat and one-dimensional with scans and photos. Having the ability to video a rare coin will certainly add another dimension to the presentation." Certainly other products are likely candidates for video display and some may benefit even more. The Recording Academy auctioned "Spend A Day With JC Chasez" as part of its promotion leading up to the Grammy awards ceremony. The Academy had done this kind of promotion on eBay before and got about 5,000 bids with a winning bid in the neighborhood of $5,000. But for the most recent sale, video was added to the mix. Chasez recorded a 60-second video for the promotion and the video brought more than 17,000 views -- resulting in a winning bid of $13,601. Clearly that suggests that offerings like AuctionVideo have the potential to take online selling to a new level of presentation. Of course, you will need to evaluate the added cost and effort involved in the process, but the additional credibility and visual impact may help to differentiate your listings and increase your sales. Using Video in eBay and Yahoo Auctions
We know that including photos in auction descriptions usually boosts sales, but rolling out soon is something that just might vault us to the next level of seller credibility: videos. Inspired by a longtime interest in video technologies, Greg Ellis, founder and CEO of Auction Video Inc., perceived a need for eBay and Yahoo online auction sellers: the ability to demonstrate their products to potential buyers. He and Kunio Toma, an experienced and successful Asian-market telecommunications developer, brainstormed and created the technology for videos that can be used within online auction descriptions. Ellis said, "We wanted to ensure that it would work well and be easy to use, so our beta testers were people who didn't like computers." According to Ellis, the beta testers loved it. Another criterion: "The auction video product had to be super cool." A visit to http://www.auctionvideo.com shows just how super cool. Here you can watch a demo video in the same format being developed for online auctions. Locate the small but wholly practical video box, click on the blue "play" button, and, unfettered by clumpy downloads or annoying dialog boxes, watch a 60-second sample video. Auction Video was created in 2003 and launched at eBay Live this past June. Auction Video has launched several partnerships, among them being Kompolt http://www.kompolt.com, an online auction agency. Kompolt worked with Auction Video during the Grammys in February, hoping to gauge the response from using an auction video. "We contracted to present the Grammy Awards Charity Auction on eBay, and exceeded their projected price point for the N'Sync Experience," says Ellis. "Using one of our auction videos, we ran a one-minute auction for the high bidder to spend a couple hours with singer JC Chasez. The Grammys projected a $5,000 winning bid. The listing far surpassed this, closing at nearly $14,000 with 17,000 views." So, what about online auction sellers? Auction Video plans to offer three consumer-based products. Auction Video is their flagship product, which allows an online auction seller with a Web camera and basic microphone to be able to record, from his or her browser, a one-minute voice and video clip and with one click, transport it seamlessly into an eBay or Yahoo auction. By watching the video, a buyer can actually see the product work; for example, watch a laptop boot up before bidding on it. The videos can also be used on an eBay About Me page. The Show & Tell service allows online auction sellers using a Mac or PC to upload from 30 to 60 digital photos into their own recording studio environment. Using a built-in or external microphone, they can record a voice narration for each picture. Then, with one click, they can upload the whole presentation to eBay or Yahoo auctions. A potential bidder can click on a little video image to play a browser-based slideshow, with no software to download or install. Customers with low bandwidth connection will appreciate this feature: the service scales down large images to maintain the high resolution. Live Auction Video is brand new, launching in next few weeks. Since the most active part of auction is usually during the last hour, Auction Video created a product that allows the buyers to log in to the seller's live auction video via a little box image included in an auction description. Once connected, they can see and hear the seller. The potential bidder can type in questions, and the seller can monitor and answer questions in real-time. The goal, according to Ellis, is to empower the seller and reassure the buyer. Online auction fraud control is a definite plus here. "We hope to help get rid of the fraud factor with this, so we collaborated with Escrow.com," says Ellis. "Generally speaking, criminals don't like being photographed or put on video, so as a legitimate seller you can show the eBay community that you're willing to put yourself out there and stand behind what you sell. This lends tons of credibility to the seller." How ready are these products for eBay sellers? Auction Video is currently working with eBay in an initial rollout of their consumer-based products for Powersellers who list auctions in eBay's Coin & Collectibles and eBay Motors departments. According to Ellis, Auction Video will consult with eBay Powersellers about their individual needs, and then provide a variety of video solutions that will meet the seller's budget and expectations. Auction Video will provide professional on-site consultation and actual film shooting, if needed, to target a seller's objective. Auction Video hopes to help online auction sellers earn the trust of
their buyers, and this could translate into higher amounts paid for
the items sold. I've got a dancing figurine Christmas display ready
to list that I can't do justice to with a still photo. I just might
take Ellis up on his trial offer to show 'em the motion.

It is reasonably well established that eBay sellers who post pictures of their wares online attract more bidders than those who just describe without showing. Logic suggests that if a picture helps, a moving picture will help even more. A new Web site allows anyone with a Webcam and, preferably, a high-speed Internet connection to put that proposition to the test. At www.auctionvideo.com, subscribers can record and store video clips of up to 60 seconds apiece for use with online auction listings. "Videos are the natural progression for online auctions," "They allow you to explain and demonstrate the product. And people are more comfortable buying from you if they can see your face." To make an auction video, you plug in your equipment, sign up for a "recording room" and click "record." When you are happy with your infomercial, the site's software embeds it in a string of HTML code. You post it by clicking Copy and pasting the code into your auction listing.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinal A new Web site, www.auctionvideo.com, lets eBay sellers with Web cams post their own infomercials in their online auctions. To make a video, sign up for a "recording room" and click "record." The site's software embeds the video in a string of HTML code, which is posted in an auction by copying and pasting into the listing. The site charges a monthly subscription rate that increases with the number of items posted for sale: for one item, $10 a month (though you can make as many video clips as you like for the item), $20 for two items, and so on.
Escrow.com, the exclusive provider of Escrow services to eBay's millions of online auction clients, has partnered with Auction Video. Headquartered in Irvine, CA, Escrow.com and its operating subsidiaries provide online escrow services that facilitate and accelerate e-commerce by assuring secure settlement. eBay Recommends Escrow.com for online Transactions. Escrow.com protects both buyer and seller by acting as a trusted third-party during the transaction and managing the payment process from start to finish. "Auction Video helps increase trust and security for online auction users worldwide." stated Alvin Black, General Manager, Escrow.com For more information see: http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/escrow.html
